The UK artist’s enigmatic music traces a particular oscillation between urban and pastoral landscapes but under the weight of a soundsystem. The syncopation between space, sound, and bodies reaches distances beyond earshot. While many genres, places, eras, and sounds may be referenced, an “impenetrable magnetism,” as Resident Advisor described it, is constant and present throughout. It’s also there under different guises and collaborative projects, such as DO U WANT TO MOVE BACK TO LDN, Gossiwor 2, with harpist Serafina Steer, with Aase Nielsen, Copeland & Gast (with Lolina), and Young Druid.
In recent years, Gast’s 5 GATE TEMPLE label has become a welcome beacon for sounds akin, which wander through a fog but never feel lost.
