A SANCTUARY FOR EXPERIMENTAL MINDS

Intonal is an annual festival for experimental and electronic music that has been held in Malmö, Sweden since 2015. The festival is held at and by Inkonst. The focus of the festival is to offer an international programme of experimental and electronic music covering a wide range of genres, subgenres, and unique expressions. Besides established artists within the electronic avant garde and acts bordering towards sound art, a hefty club-oriented programme also presents DJs acting within innovative scenes for dance music. Parallel to this, there are also a number of installations, exhibitions, and artist talks. In addition to our ticketed programme, a handful of events are free of charge and open to the public.

INTONAL 2026

By any reasonable calculation, this festival should not exist.
Last year, Intonal celebrated 10 years of oversized ambitions, and with the rapid deterioration of the cultural climate and the money-grabbing bastardisation of the alternative music scene, carrying on with the festival makes very little sense.
There is, however, a problem with that line of reasoning: Intonal has never been a reasonable festival, made by reasonable people. Intonal is carried by a shared understanding that some things are worth sustaining, even when they make little sense on paper.
For making this unreasonable festival possible, the Intonal crew would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to:

The artists who choose solidarity over scale. Not solidarity with Intonal per se, but solidarity with our common cause.
The bookers and managers who choose collaboration over short-sighted gains and who work with context rather than against it.
The public servants who, often quietly but persistently, resist the dismantling of cultural infrastructure.
The local scene that fights to keep experimental culture alive in the face of crippling gentrification.
The volunteers who throw themselves into the festival with an exceptional amount of commitment.
The audience — both returning and new — who choose to spend their time, attention, and money here, even when all three are increasingly scarce.

We’re still here because of you — completely unreasonable people. And only because of you.
