World Premiere

The Swedish-Ethiopian composer and bass player Cassius Lambert presents the world premiere of his most comprehensive work to date, Bitoi, featuring Lambert on Bass and electronics, and a choir consisting of Alexandra Shabo, Lise Kroner, and Anja Tietze Lahrmann.

The composer, producer and owner of the record label Kaprifol Records is known for his style ‘miximalism’ – or the deconstruction of minimalism through maximalism. Playing with musical textures from jazz, classical minimalism, funk, rock and hip-hop Lambert creates a new innovative sound on the contemporary music scene.

As he explains about the work, “Bitoi is a piece leaning on tradition while looking at the outskirts of our capabilities as musicians and composers. Voice is an instrument that has always been with us from the start, and it's an instrument that exists everywhere, in different contexts. The electric bass, however, is a very young instrument, and an instrument that usually is put in the same context no matter the genre. With Bitoi I tried to interweave these two entities into one. The outcome is something that is vulnerable and strong, human and hard.”
