Sofie Grevelius
exhibition + performances at Macken
Sofie Grevelius’ work revolves around the relationship between space, object and body.
Her work is process-based and begins by exploring visual sensations through drawing, photography, video and sculpture. Grevelius prefers her work to sit in between scenography and reality, between surface and depth, where she can play freely with dimension, perspective and spatiality.
Grevelius did her BA at Central St Martins and graduated with an MA in Fine Art Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, London in 2012. She is based in Stockholm.

ABROVINK (exhibition)
20-24 all day/night
Macken is a temporary gallery in an abandoned petrol station where creators since 2021 have brought the sleeping building to life. It is run by Frida Alkestrand Christensen and Daniel Christensen. It is open 24h, every day.
ABROVINK is an installation, consisting of countless fragments - materials taken from the studio, shapes the artist has collected and works from previous projects; objects, drawings, paper, textiles, plastic, nets ... These fragments are then placed, and relocated in relation to each other. Over time, a visual logic will be formulated, in relation to the place and the environment around Macken.
Just like in the city, space and architecture create the conditions for movement and change. Sofie Grevelius will therefore actively work with the gallery's design and its surroundings, picking up colors and shapes from the adjacent architecture and urban environment and thus creating a connection between inside and outside.
“With my physical presence in the gallery, the body becomes part of the exhibition. First, with the movement of the body in the room that dictates the design of the installation. But after a while the body begins to follow the logic of space and shapes. The body slowly becomes a part of installation, it tries to fit in and find places to breathe within it. The installation shows my relationship to the city and is a tribute to its features. It shows a desire to participate in and be a part of the architecture”.
In recent years, Sofie Grevelius has paid attention to the body, its shape (-ability) and how it is affected by external circumstances. At the same time, she is fascinated by the human phenomenon of wanting to fit in, of being one in the crowd, and of our tendency to fall into rhythms and follow patterns. Among objects, drawings, paper and textiles in the gallery, the body gets a purpose, a security. Something to carry or move. Something to relate to. ABROVINK will create a movement forward, a positive – albeit abstract, sense of belonging and recognition.
