Thu 21 - The Small Stage

Scenic Route

Scenic Route is the machine alter ego of Jonas Johansson, an audiovisual artist addicted to being lost and found. This ego can be described as electric murmurations where human and artificialiaty dictates both input and output. A disintegration of the self, and a re-integration into flesh and visual spectacle. A body/machine hybrid that will take you on a ride from one end of time and space to another, all the while blurring the lines between art and reality.

For the past ten years, he’s recorded his way around the globe in the search for an answer to a simple question: how to experience the place and be lost within the landscape at the same time? On the last leg of the journey, he will return to Sweden, only to find out whether he’ll be able to return home. In the meantime, he’ll follow a route to the south of the country along the coastline, stopping every place along the way.

At Intonal, Scenic Route presents visual excerpts from Jonas’ installation Mannaminne, where a collaboration with machines produced animated fantasies from Tomas Tranströmers poetry and Hilma af Klints images. It’s not about the nature of machines, but rather about the nature of human desire. The machines are just a stage for the transformation of human beings.
