NOS +
Joy Moughanni
Commissioned by Beirut’s Irtijal Festival and Intonal Festival in Malmö, this collaboration brings together artists from each city for a shared residency and performance — a meeting shaped through time, exchange and attentive process.
NOS is one of Malmö’s longest active electronic artists, working steadily since the early 1990s. Rooted in the city’s underground, he approaches music as a form of activism, with live hardware performance at its core. Emerging from trance and psychedelic traditions, he constructs extended sequences on analogue synthesizers and rhythm machines, allowing patterns to spiral and deepen. Arpeggios shimmer in repetition; basslines pulse with meditative insistence; percussion drives with hypnotic clarity. NOS maintains no digital presence. His work exists in physical space — encountered directly, carried forward in memory.
Joy Moughanni is a Beirut-based producer, engineer and songwriter mentored by Fadi Tabba. He has become a central collaborator within Beirut’s alternative scene. His solo album A Separation From Habit, recognised by The Quietus as one of 2025’s notable releases, unfolds through spacious electronics, fractured rhythms and restrained melodic motifs. His productions often feel architectural: tones placed with intention, silence treated as material, low frequencies moving beneath fragile textures. The atmosphere carries both introspection and tension, shaped with careful dynamic control. His audiovisual performances extend this sensibility into the room, attentive to resonance, placement and emotional charge.
What their collaboration will sound like remains open. No sketches have been shared, no fixed framework announced. The residency becomes a site of unfolding — analogue sequences meeting spatial composition, trance immersion intersecting with architectural listening. At the festival, we gather to witness that first articulation together.
