KAKUHAN, which means in Japanese, "mixing multiple elements," was founded by Koshiro Hino, the frontman of Japan’s dark and groovy minimalist avant-garde group GOAT. Together with Yuki Nakagawa, a renowned cellist and sound artist, the duo create a contemporary, futuristic sound that mixes algorithmic rhythm spasms and acoustic cello. The duo push boundaries and break with dualistic categories, such as composition vs. improvisation or traditional vs. contemporary, exploring unknown areas of electronic music. Their debut album Metal Zone (2022) has been described as futureshock, combining dark, cybernetic melodies with freaky rhythms, textures, and distinct sound design.
