The sound artist and designer from Cyprus makes work driven by an urge to create narrative objects and tools for musical expression.
Spanning instrument-making, performance, sound sculpture, and installation work, in all these areas, Shammas explores intricacies in movement and sound by animating simple materials and manifesting tensions between the mechanical and the chaotic. His creations are the centerpieces of his recordings, featuring instruments such as the stringed Lyraei or the gravity and gears-driven Kyklophonon.
